SmartType instantly wraps selected text with any character in a single keypress, right in your Chrome browser. Select a word, press a key — quotes, brackets, parentheses, or any character you want are added automatically. No more typing characters on both sides, no more moving the cursor back and forth.
SmartType also boosts your productivity with Smart Typography: straight quotes become curly quotes, hyphens become proper dashes, and (c) becomes ©. Professional-looking text without hunting for special characters.

How the module works
How does SmartType work?
SmartType combines two powerful features to speed up your text editing:
- Text wrapping — Select text, press a configured key (quote, bracket, parenthesis…) and the text is instantly wrapped. Works with symmetric pairs (
" ' ` * _) and asymmetric pairs (( ) [ ] { } < > « »). Fully customizable. - Smart Typography — Straight quotes become curly quotes (language-aware for 48 languages), hyphens become proper dashes, three dots become …, and symbols like (c) → ©, (tm) → ™. Code-block aware — your code stays untouched.
- Works everywhere — Form fields, rich text editors, iframes, web-based IDEs, webmail, CMS… Anywhere you can type, SmartType works.
